In this post we will briefly introduce 19 Hyatt hotel brands: upscale, luxury and upper upscale
Hyatt is one of the fastest-growing major hotel chains globally. Previously criticized for having a small footprint worldwide, Hyatt has impressed and is continuing to impress with its incredible pace of opening new properties, primarily those in the upscale and luxury categories.
Currently, Hyatt has around 950 properties worldwide in 67 countries, which is petite compared to competitors like Hilton and Marriott.
Still, it’s a formidable hospitality company, and in particular, if you’re looking to get exceptional value when redeeming points at luxury hotels, you’ll want to pay attention to this guide.
Let’s take a look at Hyatt’s impressive portfolio of unique brands!
Picture
Even though Hyatt has just a fraction of properties compared to Hilton and Marriott, Hyatt has an impressive list of hotel brands!
On the lower end, you’ll find properties like Hyatt Place and Hyatt House (which are still superb for value travelers). On the other more luxurious end, you’ll see world-famous names like Park Hyatt, Andaz, Alila, Thompson, and Grand Hyatt.
Without further ado, let’s break down the tiers and quick statistics of each brand:

As you can see in the chart above, there are 3 main categories of properties: luxury, upper-upscale, and upscale.
It can be argued that UrCove by Hyatt properties fall into the upscale or even upper-upscale categories, but this is how Hyatt and its partners have chosen to categorize it.
Even though there aren’t thousands of properties globally, there is an abundance of hotel brands within Hyatt’s portfolio.

However, as of July 2021, World of Hyatt will be introducing off-peak, standard, and peak pricing, which will apply for free night redemptions in standard rooms, club rooms, standard suites, premium suites, Points + Cash bookings, and all-inclusive properties like Miraval.
19 Hyatt Hotel Brands
Hyatt has a total of 19 brands within its portfolio, which is a surprising number, considering it has just under 1,000 total properties around the world. For comparison, Hilton has 6,000+ properties and 18 brands.
What you can infer from this observation is that Hyatt has identified lots of segmentation opportunities in the hotel market, and has decided to offer a larger variety of brands to cater to a more diverse group of people with different tastes and needs.
So let’s get into Hyatt’s brands, one-by-one.
1. Alila
Alila is the first brand we’ll be talking about. Alila was acquired as part of the Two Roads Hospitality merger with Hyatt in 2018, and it’s one of the most exclusive luxury brands in the world. With less than 20 properties to its name, this eco-focused luxury brand has amassed a cult following.
It’s thought to compete with brands like Aman Resorts, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, COMO Hotels & Resorts, One&Only Resorts, and Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas.
Alila is known for offering experiential accommodations, ranging from its properties in Bali to up-and-coming resorts in Oman and even Big Sur’s absolutely phenomenal Ventana Big Sur, an Alila Resort.
Meaning “surprise” in Sanskrit, Alila reimagines the interpretation of culture, history, local cuisine, and discoveries when you stay at these properties. It blends modern luxury with centuries-old traditions to create authentic experiences on the road less traveled.
As you can imagine, these high-end resorts can often go for a pretty penny. The first location opened in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital city, and its footprint has spread to 6 countries thus far.
2. Andaz
HyattOne of Hyatt’s flagship brands, Andaz offers a boutique feel with a touch of Hyatt’s rewards and consistency. Known to be housed in the most prime locations available, this brand blurs the line between business and leisure luxury.
Andaz’s high-end travelers focus on being in the best location, enjoying curated art, fantastic dining, and top-tier amenities.
Direct competitors of Andaz include W Hotels, EDITION Hotels, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, SLS Hotels & Residences, and Viceroy Hotels & Resorts.
3. Caption by Hyatt
HyattCaption by Hyatt is one of Hyatt’s newest lifestyle brands in the upscale, select-service category. This means that instead of offering a full-service experience with spas, multiple eateries, and other bells and whistles, it focuses on connecting people together with its innovative social spaces.
Its overall goal is to facilitate spaces where people can network and collaborate in a flexible environment.
We expect Caption by Hyatt to offer work-friendly common areas, approachable, open-air spaces, and locally-influenced food and beverage options. On average, the rooms will be smaller than you would get at a full-service property — each “cozy” room will be 220 to 270 square feet large.
As a result, you’ll probably understand that these properties are intended to be focused more on casual business travelers rather than families.
Even though Caption by Hyatt doesn’t currently have any locations yet, it is said to compete with brands like AC Hotels, Aloft Hotels, citizenM hotels, Motto by Hilton, and Moxy Hotels.

4. Destination by Hyatt
The Destination by Hyatt brand was originally part of Two Roads Hospitality, and its 56 U.S. properties have since been integrated into World of Hyatt’s global operations.
These properties offer luxurious amenities and comfort in a boutique environment. Whether you’re into dog sledding, hiking, or just spa relaxation, Destination by Hyatt offers one of the most well-rounded approaches to luxury accommodation.
Importantly, all of these properties have retained their boutique touches, which makes staying there feel like a true luxury experience instead of a cookie-cutter chain hotel experience.
Destination by Hyatt competes directly with the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Curio Collection by Hilton, and Autograph Collection.
5. Grand Hyatt
Grand Hyatt is one of Hyatt’s most well-known brands. With a rich history, time-tested brand power, and consistent service, it offers a wonderful luxury experience.
As one of the most international hotel chains, Grand Hyatt’s reach extends to 27 countries globally. A full-service brand, this luxury arm of Hyatt allows you to discover the best of a destination, thanks to incredible locations, cultural highlights, and even celebrations and traditions within the property.
These properties tend to be Hyatt’s biggest in size, catering both to leisure and business travelers. Traditionally, however, Grand Hyatt appeals to those in large groups or booking corporate events.
Features include artisanal dining options, spacious guestrooms with spa-inspired bathrooms, an absolute abundance of state-of-the-art meeting space, a club lounge called the Grand Club, as well as spa facilities.
Indeed, these properties live up to the “grand” name, whether you’re at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa in Hawaii, the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, or the Grand Hyatt New York.
In total, there are around 59 properties, though this number is expected to grow as the brand continues to impress.
6. Hyatt
Hyatt, often shortened from Hyatt Hotels, is the namesake brand of the greater hospitality company. Surprisingly, Hyatt is one of the smallest brands in the entire portfolio!
These properties fall into the upper-upscale segment, and they’re focused on contemporary accommodations in superb locations, like New York and Carmel.
Each of these properties has flexible workspaces and comfortable living areas with free Wi-Fi no matter where you are. Although Hyatt doesn’t offer epic, gala-style event space as Grand Hyatt does, you can still host your gatherings and meetings in style with great backdrops for your occasions.
Popular with both business and leisure travelers, Hyatt properties are perfect for the discerning traveler who might not feel comfortable dropping thousands of dollars on a flagship-brand hotel like Park Hyatt. Instead, Hyatt offers pragmatic prices and upscale comfort!
The Hyatt sub-brand competes with Marriott, Hilton, and Westin.
There are currently 16 properties located in 3 countries: the U.S., France, and India.
7. Hyatt Centric
Hyatt Centric is Hyatt’s full-service lifestyle brand with an undying obsession with the best locations in a destination.
Appealing mostly to leisure travelers that spend most of their time exploring the local area, this brand helps facilitate wanderlust and adventure. In a sense, Hyatt Centric properties are a launchpad for exploring the hot spots in a particular area.
But at the property, you’ll find functional spaces throughout, designed with the guest in mind, enabling them to work, relax, and socialize.
One of the consistent highlights is the on-property restaurant that always offers crafted cocktails, local cuisine, and more. Also, the concierge service at Hyatt Centric is known to be knowledgeable and incredibly helpful for helping guests plan their trips.
These boutique hotels offer practical accommodations with comfortable beds and choice amenities to encourage you to spend time recharging at the property after a full day of excursions. You might also find facilities like gyms and meeting spaces.
Hyatt Centric’s upper-upscale categorization falls into the same competitive category as Ace Hotel, AC Hotels, Moxy Hotels, Canopy by Hilton, and Hotel Indigo.
8. Hyatt House
Hyatt House is Hyatt’s extended-stay brand. Even though Hyatt is known mostly for its upscale and luxury properties, Hyatt House is arguably the best extended-stay brand out there!
Its nearly 120 properties across 10 countries feature apartment-style suites with large footprints. As you can probably imagine, Hyatt House locations resemble what you’d find in a residential area, with full kitchens, separate living areas, and all the conveniences of home in an extended stay hotel.
In each room, the fully-equipped kitchens include refrigerators, microwaves, stovetops, islands, utensils, and much more.
Also, Hyatt House properties all have complimentary hot breakfast (with a made-to-order Omelet Bar at most locations) and H BAR food and beverage offerings (grab and go market), as well as communal spaces (both indoor and indoor).
All locations also have a 24/7 gym, 24/7 on-site laundry, fire pits and grills, free public printers with remote printing, free Wi-Fi, and more. Most Hyatt House properties also have a pool.
Hyatt House competes with Residence Inn by Marriott and Homewood Suites by Hilton.
9. Hyatt Place
Hyatt Place is often confused with Hyatt House, considering both of these are generally considered the “lowest” tier in terms of luxury within Hyatt’s portfolio.
As we’ve shown you with Hyatt House above, these properties are still incredibly comfortable with modern accommodations.
Hyatt Place positions itself to be a versatile brand of properties that caters to different traveler profiles. Offering a consistently modern and seamless experience, these properties feature thoughtfully-designed rooms with distinct areas for sleep, work, and relaxation.
This means that there’s a separate area with a bed, a separate area with a couch, and a separate area with a desk. Hyatt Place rooms are typically larger than an ordinary hotel guestroom, upwards of 300 to 400 square feet large.
All rooms feature a Cozy Corner sectional sleeper sofa, walk-in shower, oversized vanity with 1 sink, dressing area, large closet, and upscale bath and body amenities.
And although the exact recreational facilities vary by location, you can almost always expect a fitness center with cardio equipment, free weights, and benches. Some properties also have pools.
You can also make use of the meeting space, the complimentary printer/computer usage in the lobby lounge, and the other social spaces. There’s also a grab-and-go market with snacks, salads, pastries, and more.
Hyatt Place competes with AC Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott, and Hilton Garden Inn.
With over 400 properties, Hyatt Place is the largest brand in Hyatt’s portfolio, with locations in 24 countries worldwide.
10. Hyatt Regency
Hyatt Regency is one of the classic full-service brands within Hyatt. It offers a slew of services and amenities for all types of travelers, whether you’re there for business, leisure, or a large event.
Locations are concentrated in key urban markets around the world and have flexible meeting and conference spaces for versatile usage. On the flipside, Hyatt Regency resort locations will appeal to couples, families, and even corporate groups looking for a more relaxed event atmosphere.
Ultimately, Hyatt Regency properties contain spacious and comfortable rooms with many residential features like cozy couches, functional workstations, and 65-inch HDTVs.
At these properties, you’ll find 24/7 dining options, spas, pools, business centers, premium gyms, and other world-class facilities. Notably, many Hyatt Regency properties around the world can contain up to 2,000 guests!
Hyatt Regency competes primarily with brands like Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, and Westin.
There are 224 Hyatt Regency locations in a whopping 44 countries around the world, which makes this the most “global” Hyatt brand out there.
11. Hyatt Residence Club
Hyatt Residence Club is one of the most well-known timeshare companies in the world. In reality, this Hyatt brand is actually owned by ILG, a subsidiary of Marriott Vacations Worldwide.
Nonetheless, Hyatt Residence Club maintains a totally separate brand. These properties provide their members with some of the best vacation ownership opportunities in the U.S.
When you pre-purchase time at Hyatt Residence Clubs, you have the flexibility of occupying your timeshare, exchanging time among other locations, traveling within Hyatt’s brand ecosystem, or even converting your time to World of Hyatt points!
These properties usually feature well-appointed guest rooms with a master suite and an ensuite full bathroom, as well as gourmet kitchens, huge TVs, and access to resort amenities.
However, these properties don’t have their own restaurants and dining options — instead, they are shared with a nearby full-service resort.
For example, the Hyatt Residence Club Maui, Ka’anapali Beach is located just next to the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. The 2 properties, therefore, share a lot of common facilities and amenities together.
Hyatt Residence Club competes with similar companies like Hilton Vacation Club and Marriott Vacation Club.
All of Hyatt Residence Club’s 16 properties are located in the U.S. and concentrated in popular resort cities like Hawaii, Florida, California, and Colorado.
12. Hyatt Zilara
Hyatt Zilara is one of Hyatt’s 2 all-inclusive brands. Notably, this brand is adults-only, and its resort locations offer a variety of amenities in a one-stop-shop. Once you arrive, you won’t feel the need to leave!
The properties offer unlimited food, drinks, and entertainment with rooms and suites that offer waterfront views and complimentary minibars. Every Hyatt Zilara property pours top-shelf drinks and has 24-hour in-suite dining and gourmet dining options.
The benefits don’t end there because these properties all have loaded calendars of live entertainment and locally-inspired activities, plus resort features like spas, swim-up infinity pools, athletic courts, gyms, and social activities.
Hyatt Zilara properties are famous for being a favorite venue for weddings, but you can even hold business events and meetings t
here!
As an all-inclusive adults-only brand, Hyatt Zilara competes in a space shared by Sandals and Secrets. You’ll find Hyatt Zilara locations in Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.
13. Hyatt Ziva
Hyatt Ziva is Hyatt’s family-friendly take on all-inclusive resorts. Often compared to Hyatt Zilara, these properties are just as luxurious as their adults-only sister brand.
Designed for all ages in prime leisure locations in North America, Hyatt Ziva offers numerous on-site activities and a wide array of food and beverage outlets with an emphasis on authentic local cuisine for the entire family to savor.
These sprawling resorts have all the bells and whistles of a 5-star paradise, including numerous infinity pools, lots of dining options, private beaches, luxe spas, live entertainment, and seemingly endless activities such as snorkeling and volleyball.
Of course, all of the standard resort features are included, like poolside cabanas, free Wi-Fi, state-of-the-art gym facilities with fitness classes, and more. If you’re a business traveler or planning a corporate event, Hyatt Ziva also has well-appointed meeting facilities.
Hyatt Ziva competes with other all-inclusive brands like Beaches and Dreams.
There are a total of 5 Hyatt Ziva properties across Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.
14. JdV by Hyatt
JdV by Hyatt (formerly Joie de Vivre) is a brand inherited by Hyatt from its acquisition of Two Roads Hospitality.
This set of independent, boutique hotels caters to the light-hearted, young-at-heart, spirited traveler.
Celebrating the joy of living, JdV by Hyatt properties are eclectic and reflect the true character of the location, from inviting facilities to rustic amenities.
JdV by Hyatt competes with Autograph Collection, Canopy by Hilton, and Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.
There are 19 of these properties in 3 countries: the U.S., Sweden, and China.
15. Miraval
Miraval is Hyatt’s ultra-luxury wellness resort brand. With just 3 locations in Arizona, Texas, and Massachusetts, this is one of the most exclusive resort brands in the world.
With such a unique focus on wellness, this brand of hotels focuses on attracting well-heeled luxury guests trying to unwind and relax in luxury without the traditional white sand beach experience.
As you can imagine, these properties have luxurious spas, exclusive experiences, and inclusive amenities. For example, Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa extends 400 acres and has experiences including challenge courses, yoga, Pilates, exercise physiology, equine, wellness counseling, nutrition, and so much more.
These high-end resorts focus on bringing balance to their guests’ lives, thanks to the cornerstone offerings they boast. When booking stays here, you’ll often find nightly resort credits, inclusive gourmet meals, full access to daily activities, and of course, some of the most luxurious accommodations you’ve ever seen.
Miraval’s primary competitors are Cal-a-vie Health Spa, Canyon Ranch, and Golden Door.
16. Park Hyatt
The flagship luxury brand in Hyatt’s portfolio, Park Hyatt is one of the most sophisticated hotels in the world thanks to its warm embrace of luxury and most importantly, personalized service.
Park Hyatt properties aren’t as massive as Grand Hyatts, but that’s not the point — the properties cater to sophisticated luxury travelers, especially those who value intimacy, privacy, service, food, and culture.
Indeed, these properties are often located in “forgotten” areas where luxury brands choose not to put down roots, like Mendoza (Argentina’s wine country), Zanzibar, Niseko (Japan’s premier ski destination), and Busan.
Design elements reflecting the regional character make these properties the optimal home away from home. These hotels have some of the best culinary experiences in the area, which creates memorable occasions for their guests.
Guestrooms feature residential-inspired luxury and make you feel like you’re living in a luxury high-rise straight out of a movie, with soaring floor-to-ceiling windows, thoughtful lighting, and impeccable comfort.
Its properties don’t have Club Lounges like Grand Hyatt or Hyatt Regency properties do, but they do offer spas, premium gyms, art-filled meeting spaces, and best-in-class service.
Park Hyatt is truly the cream of the crop when it comes to Hyatt’s legacy brands. Its 47 properties in 26 countries compete directly with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Mandarin Oriental, The Peninsula Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton, and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts.
17. Thompson Hotels
Thompson Hotels was acquired by Hyatt as part of the Two Roads Hospitality acquisition, and it’s one of the most important luxury brands for North American travelers.
This brand of hotels fits solidly in the luxury segment — it’s probably the most luxurious boutique hotel brand in Hyatt’s portfolio, followed by The Unbound Collection.
All Thompson properties have a mid-century aesthetic, adorned with an abundance of wooden, burnt-orange tones and leather trims. And Thompson does a fantastic job at furnishing its properties in a unique way despite having a signature aesthetic.
Thompson also does a great job at making its food and beverage options worthy of holding local gatherings — its hotel eateries are frequented by tourists and locals alike. Whether it’s on a rooftop or in an underground venue, guests love Thompson experiences.
Lastly, Thompson has a team of event planners and a number of different event spaces for your exact needs.
This brand competes with W Hotels, EDITION Hotels, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, SLS Hotels & Residences, and Viceroy Hotels & Resorts.
Thompson Hotels’ 15 properties are concentrated in the U.S., though there are several fabulous properties in Mexico.
18. The Unbound Collection by Hyatt
The Unbound Collection is another one of Hyatt’s upper-upscale and luxury brands, offering a boutique hotel feel to its accommodations.
No 2 properties are similar, whether you’re talking about The Driskell Hotel in Austin or the Great Scotland Yard Hotel in London.
These properties straddle the line between upper-upscale and luxury in categorization but are extraordinary wherever you go.
Each of these properties has unique amenities and facilities, but they are all story-worthy and full-service properties. Every property maintains its independent take on luxury but enjoys the global base of operations that Hyatt offers.
Some properties have just 50 rooms while others may have upwards of 400 rooms! Each property has a story to tell, whether you’re deep in the mountains of Yunnan, China (The Lost Stone Villas & Spa) or you’re deep in the romantic vineyards of Carmel Valley Ranch in California.
The Unbound Collection competes with brands like Autograph Collection and Curio Collection by Hilton.
There are 25 properties in The Unbound Collection spread out across 9 countries worldwide.
19. UrCove by Hyatt
UrCove by Hyatt is a collaboration between Hyatt and BTG Homeinns Hotels Group. This brand of hotels based in China marks one of Hyatt’s newest brand ventures, and it’s aimed at grabbing the market share of China’s frequent business travelers.
Boasting premium hospitality services, this domestic travel-focused brand blends comfort and convenience into an upper-midscale brand. Still, it could be argued that these properties actually fall into the upscale segment.
The properties are designed to offer a sense of home, thoughtful service, best-in-class amenities, and a refined yet relaxed ambiance.
The guestrooms are spacious with ideal layouts for work-life balance. But the highlights are the facilities offered at UrCove by Hyatt properties, including world-renowned dining options, a 24/7 gym, meeting spaces, speedy Wi-Fi, and business services.
UrCove competes with Atour, Hampton by Hilton, and Mercure Hotels.
Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) Partnership
World of Hyatt has a marketing partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World, often abbreviated as SLH. This partnership gives World of Hyatt members access to many (but not all) of SLH’s properties.
SLH consists of over 500 properties, though it doesn’t manage any of them. You can earn and redeem points at participating SLH hotels, as well as enjoy awesome benefits like:
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • Daily complimentary continental breakfast
  • Room upgrade (1 category at check-in, if available)
  • Early check-in (12 p.m., based upon availability at check-in)
  • Late checkout (2 p.m., based upon availability at check-in)
Remember, you won’t enjoy any World of Hyatt elite benefits at SLH properties, so it doesn’t matter whether you’re a Globalist or Discoverist member.
Many of these properties are actually even more opulent than Park Hyatt, Miraval, and Alila. But since these aren’t actually Hyatt-branded properties, they don’t fall under the list of Hyatt brands.
Notable properties include Topping Rose House in The Hamptons, Calala Island in Nicaragua, and more.

Final Thoughts
Hyatt has a surprisingly diverse list of brands. Even though its portfolio of hotels is a fraction of other hotel chains like Hilton, Marriott, and IHG, an impressive list of brands offers differentiation and more options to discerning travelers.
From select-service brands like Hyatt Place and Hyatt House to full-service opulence from Park Hyatt and Miraval, it’s easy to see why Hyatt is one of the world’s most popular hotel companies in the world!
Also, the Small Luxury Hotels of the World partnership should not be underestimated because you can stay at more than 350+ extra properties while staying in the World of Hyatt rewards program!
We hope you’ve found this guide useful to learn more about Hyatt’s brands!
